Tragedy struck western Japan late last week when a torrential rain resulted in catastrophic flooding and landslides. The natural disaster has caused the deaths of at least 50 people while displacing more than 1.6 million. As the situation grows worse, the government has advised 3 million more people to evacuate their homes.
In response to the disaster, Binance has announced that it will be donating $1 million in either Binance Coin (BNB), Bitcoin (BTC), or the Japanese Yen (JPY).
According to the announcement, which was initially given by Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the exchange is inviting other investors and blockchain projects to join in and donate.
CZ notes that the exchange is currently working with local authorities to figure out the logistics of its donations and that a more systematic approach for investors to participate in the charity will be released shortly.
