Belgian troops patrolling a major train station in Brussels have “neutralised” a person following an explosion.
Belgian Police did not yet confirm independent media reports that stated the suspect was wearing an explosive belt when he was shot.

The suspected terrorist attack has taken place at Brussels Central station, the busiest station in the country, officials are stating that everything is under control now. It is however yet unclear whether there were any casualties.

A Belgian police spokesperson stated that “There was an explosion around a person. That person was neutralised by soldiers that were on the scene.”

The photo below, which is already doing the rounds on social media allegedly shows a small explosion, possibly the same attacker at the station.

It is not clear whether the person who was shot is still alive – but apart from the suspect, no other casualties have been reported.

Brussels Central has been evacuated as well as Grand Place, a major tourist site which lies about 200m away. It seems the simultaneous attacks on both areas was co-ordinated.

This is a major developing news story and details are still sketchy, we will update this news story soon.
