London has been enveloped in thick fog for the past few days, however this morning’s situation has been described as critical as land transportation and even flights had to be cancelled for safety reasons
It has been reported that visibility at Heathrow, Gatwick, London City Airport and Stansted airports is about 100 metres, which would create a very problematic situation for landing and takeoff and might cause disruptions.
It is understood that not all flights have been cancelled and many flights are using the automated landing systems installed on modern international-flights aircraft where the computerised systems land the aircraft automatically without the need of visual help from the human captain.
The United Kingdom Met Office, issued a severe weather warning for London, southeast England and parts of southwest England.
